Susie Kaufman is running for Saint Louis Park School Board this November.
Susie is a lifelong educator who brings her skills and experience to Saint Louis Park, where she lives with her husband, Gabe, and two daughters, Ali and Evie, as well as their rescue dog, Lexi.
For 13 years, Susie was a middle and high school teacher and administrator in New York City, primarily working with students with learning differences.
After moving to Saint Louis Park in 2015, Susie became a leader in the gun violence prevention movement, and most recently served for two years as the Minnesota State Lead of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
Priorities for our Public Schools
-
Make sure instruction is appropriately challenging for every student.
Prioritize appropriate staffing for students with learning challenges.
Elevate standards and expectations for all students.
-
Foster an environment throughout the district where all students feel safe and confident in their identity.
Continue to build on established safety and well-being best practices.
Encourage community-member involvement in schools through volunteering and local business support.
-
Develop innovative ways to communicate district policy decisions to parents, families, and the community.
Include teacher voice and input in district policy.
Hear and acknowledge community voice in policy decisions.
As a parent of two daughters in the district and as a lifelong educator, I am ready to bring my experience and skills to help move Saint Louis Park Schools forward.
I know firsthand the many outstanding aspects of our school system - its teachers, its diversity, and this community. I also recognize that there are numerous opportunities for growth, and I am committed to working towards achieving them.
My husband, Gabe, and I moved to Saint Louis Park with our family in 2015. We chose to live here because of the reputation of its schools, the economic and social diversity within the community, and the small town feel. These are the things that make living here so special.
As the world around us becomes more fraught and divided, I am committed to doing what I can to ensure that every child feels safe in our schools. From immigrant families, to LBGTQIA+ students, to the Jewish and Muslim communities, and others, I know that people are scared. No one should feel like they have to hide who they are in a classroom. And no teacher should feel unprepared to meet the academic needs of each of their students. I can’t change everything that is going on in the world, but I am making a commitment to do what I can in our community and for the students of our district.
